Pamala K. Thompson, RN, MSA, MSN, NEA-BC
Associate Director, Patient Care Services
Ms. Pamala Thompson was appointed to Associate
Director for Patient Care Services at the Louisville VA Medical Center in
May 2008. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Thompson served as the
Associate Director for Patient Care Services at the VA Medical Center in
Clarksburg, West Virginia beginning in January 2006. Ms. Thompson
was responsible for nursing, infection control, education, care
coordination, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and recreation
therapy. During her tenure, she directed various groups in the
development of programs to optimize patient care delivery and improve
medical documentation. She used active and persistent team building
skills to increase the facility performance improvement measures to lead VISN 4 to the second best ranking in the nation.
Ms. Thompson was Chief Nurse, Ambulatory Care at
the VA Medical Center in Dallas, Texas from August 2003 to December
2005. She was identified as one of three clinical champions
for performance measures, leading a facility wide cultural buy-in. Ms. Thompson was involved in various National and VISN 4 initiatives.
Ms. Thompson brings over twenty years of clinical
and administrative experience, having served as Senior Vice President of
Clinical Operations for a private firm in Dallas, Texas, and as Nurse
Executive for Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy, Texas, and
Vice President of Patient Care Services at Walker Baptist Medical
Center in Jasper, Alabama. Her broad scope of responsibilities
included leadership for nursing services, respiratory care, anesthesia,
social services, infection control, home care services, utilization review, behavioral medicine, quality management, and cardio pulmonary care.
In addition to the extensive clinical and
administrative background, Ms. Thompson holds a Master of Science in
Nursing Administration from the University of Alabama, a Master of Science
in Health Administration from Columbus College in Georgia, and a Bachelor
of Science in Nursing from Troy State University in Alabama. She
holds Certification in Nursing Administration, Advanced.
Ms. Thompson has complemented her highly successful
career by serving in the military and is currently a Captain, US Navy
Nurse Corp (Reserves), as well as completing the Health Care Leadership
Institute (HCLI) Executive Career Field Department of Veterans Affairs
national training program. She was nominated by the EES
Program Director to serve as a National Coach for HCLI.
