Marylee Rothschild, M.D.
Chief of Staff

 

Dr. Marylee Rothschild was appointed Chief of Staff of the Louisville VA Medical Center in Louisville, KY in May 2005.  Prior to her appointment as Chief of Staff, Dr. Rothschild served as Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care Service for the previous twelve years at this facility.

As Chief of Staff at the Louisville VAMC, she acts as a link between clinical and administrative staffs.  More specifically, she works closely with the Medical Center Director and Associate Director in planning and implementing medical center policies and programs and brings to the triad the needs and concerns of medical staff.  Dr. Rothschild provides leadership for the clinical departments in development of clinical programs to meet the needs of the veteran population.  She oversees the credentialing and privileging of medical staff; monitors quality improvement programs; and facilitates the coordination of clinical, education and research programs.  She serves as Associate Dean for Veterans Affairs for the University of Louisville Medical School and, as such, integrates and coordinates the activities of the school as they relate to the Medical Center’s mission of quality patient care, research and education.

Dr. Rothschild completed her medical degree (1978) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Her residency (1978-1981) in Internal Medicine from Montefiore Hospital of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was concurrent with a teaching fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  She was selected for a second Faculty Development fellowship at the University of North Carolina (1992-1994).  Dr. Rothschild is boarded in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Rothschild began her career at the Louisville VA Medical Center in 1983 as an assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Louisville in the Division of General Internal Medicine.  In 1987, she began as Section Chief of the General Medical Clinics.  From 1992 through 2004, she has served as Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care Service, steering the Service through a time of unprecedented growth and modernization.  In May 2004, she accepted the position of Acting Chief of Staff at the Louisville VA.

She holds the title of Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky.  She has been awarded three research grants over the past several years related to innovations in patient education, resident education and telephone medicine, and has published several articles in these fields as well.  She has participated in four other research projects involving treatment of hypertension.

In April 1996, Dr. Rothschild received the National Award for Innovation in Medical Education, awarded by the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) for her work in developing, implementing and disseminating a curriculum for residents on telephone medicine.
