LOUISVILLE – The Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the purchase of the Jefferson County property at 4906 Brownsboro Road, known as the midlands area. The property will be the future site of the new Robley Rex VA Medical Center facility. Final acquisition of the 34.5 acre site took place on July 10, 2012, from Blue Equity, LLC for the fair market value of $12.905M.

Master planning is underway and the design phase should begin as early as October 2012. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2014 with completion in 2018. A public town hall forum is planned for the evening of August 15th where more information will be shared with the local community.

The new state-of-the-art medical center, expected to open in early 2018, will have clinics specializing in primary care, surgery, and mental health and 110 inpatient beds. The new facility will also have a geriatric and extended care program, a home-based primary care program, and a substance abuse residential rehabilitation treatment program.
