Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Logo

The goal of the Health Promotion Disease Prevention (HPDP) Program is to give you, the Veteran, the tools to make healthy choices as an active member of your health care team.

Our Vision

An all-encompassing culture of health promotion and disease prevention throughout the continuum of care that supports Veterans in achieving optimal health and well-being.

Our Mission

  • Advocate for health promotion, disease prevention, and health education
  • Advise VHA leadership on evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention policy
  • Provide programs, education, resources, coordination, guidance, and oversight for the field to enhance health, well-being, and quality of life for Veterans

HPDP Program Messages and Goals. VHA clinicians and clinical support staff must value these interventions and incorporate them into each Veteran’s overall plan of care. Evidence-based HPDP services are integrated into clinical care delivery throughout facilities and all affiliated community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). To facilitate delivery of HPDP services, the following nine key “Healthy Living” messages and associated program goals for VHA have been developed:
